TB/HIV Thyolo
DAPP Malawi with support from Comic Relief through TB Alert UK implemented HIV/TB integrated activities in Thyolo district. The project ran for a period of three years from February 2015 to January 2018. The project was further extended to April 2018.
The idea of the project was to prevent the spread of Tuberculosis (TB) in Thyolo District and to provide care to those who are infected by raising awareness of the diseases through door to door visits, conducting screening, referring presumptive TB cases to microscopy centers and training volunteers in signs and symptoms of TB.
The project supported health services provision through establishment of sputum collection centers and making patients follow-ups. Besides, the project also provided additional nutrition support to TB patients, conduct awareness sessions on TB/HIV co-infection in order to reduce onward transmission and reduce stigma. The Project reached out to about 175,000 people against a target of 140,000 in 14 Traditional Authorities with information on TB prevention and treatment.
