DAPP Amalika Celebrates New Teachers and Tailors
On 7 June 2019, DAPP Amalika Teachers Training College celebrated the completion of a three-year teaching profession training for 63 student teachers that had been trained at the school.
During the graduation which was attended by representatives from the Thyolo District Education Officer, the graduating teachers were awarded certificates of completion by the school while they, also, are awarded the Initial Primary Teacher Education certificate by the Malawi Nation Examinations Board (MANEB).
Taking place concurrently was also the graduation of 61 young women and adolescent girls who had been trained at Amalika TTC in tailoring. The tailoring training runs for four months. It is an extension of DAPP Mikolongwe Vocational School’s programs aimed at reaching out to more youth in Malawi.
Amalika TTC is one of the four DAPP TTCs which has opened a Satellite centre for training young women in tailoring with funding from Sympany of Netherlands.
To date, the DAPP TTCs; Amalika, Chilangoma, Dowa and Mzimba have trained a total of 2891 teachers combined.
On the other hand, over 500 young women and adolescent girls have been equipped with tailoring skills. At the end of the training, the tailors; in groups of three members, receive start up tools which include sewing machines that enable the establish small scale businesses.
