Support to Pre-schools Project making strides
DAPP Malawi has since 2003 been supporting Community Based Child Care centers (CBCCs) around its teacher training colleges which complements the government of Malawi’s efforts to improve the delivery and access to quality early childhood education.
Despite various efforts, DAPP Malawi observed that most CBCC’s do not have adequate facilities and resources to support children. As such, attendance is low and dropout is high as most children are not motivated to come to schools for play and learn. Most schools do not feed children which makes parents not to send their children to school.
In response to these great needs, DAPP Malawi partnered with Assocalzaturifici through Humana People to people Italia to support 10 CBCC’s around DAPP Chilangoma Teacher Training College (TTC). Through this Support to Pre-schools Project, 40 caregivers were trained to improve their capacity in handling children, 7 toilets were renovated and 8 constructed to improve hygiene and sanitation, ramp surfaces were constructed to allow learners with physical disabilities to access school facilities.
The project is being implemented in Traditional Authority Kuntaja in Temani, Nanjiwa, Njolomole, Chiwalo, Mdala, Mwansambo, Salimu, Jumbe, Chapotera and Kuntaja villages.
