DAPP Malawi at Day of the African Child and Launch of New Children’s Policy
Heald under the theme “Humanitarian Actions in Africa, Children Rights First”, the 2019 Day of the African Child in conjunction with the launch of the new Children’s policy took place on the 26th June at Njereza Primary school grounds in Group Village Headman Njereza, Traditional Authority Kasisi, Chikwawa district.
Spiced up with music, poems, plays and various types of dance, the day, which is commemorated on 16th June annually, attracted the presence of children, guardians, government and local officials, Local and international businesses, companies, partners and organizations.
DAPP Malawi participated through a pavilion where recently deployed DAPP trained and graduated teachers under the Education in Emergency program which was introduced by the Education Cluster in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology elaborated on the work they are doing in the various flood affected schools they are working under in the district.
Minister of Gender, Children, Disability & Social Welfare, Mrs. Mary Navachi said we all have a duty to ensure that the wellbeing of all children is protected from various kinds of harm that may come their way. “With support from you all, I believe this new children’s policy will be implemented effectively” Said Mrs. Navachi.
The day of the African child was established in 1991 by the Assembly of Heads of state and government of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in memory of the 16 June 1976 massacre of children that took place during the Soweto uprising in South Africa
